The coiner of the quoi- prefix, Epochryphal, defines being quoiromantic as "actively disidentifying" with romance/romantic attraction/romantic orientation "as sensible/applicable categories for you" or feeling these categories are "inaccessible, inapplicable, non-sensical". Co sees quoi- as challenging the idea that these concepts are universally applicable and relevant.
Having a hard time distinguishing romantic attraction from other types of attractions, or being unable to distinguish them at all (For example, you can't distinguish romantic feelings from platonic, or you have a hard time distinguishing romantic from sensual feelings)
Struggling to find a better term because it is too complicated or because they just don't fit any other term
Not experiencing romanticism in a traditional manner
A shared flag for quoiromantic, quoisexual and quoigender was proposed by epochryphal in 2015: a circle of 4 lavender question marks sharing a single dot, on a cool grey house shape with a white or transparent background.
Quoiromantics may differ from gray-aromantics in many ways. While gray-aro individuals are those who fall somewhere along a line in between alloromantic & aromantic, quoiromantics may not be on the line at all. Quoiromantic is generally used as a catch-all term for those who fall somewhere in the category of semiromantic or alternatively romantic, but do not better fit into any other label. Still, quoiromantic people can identify as grey-aro as well.
